Charley Horse Cramps
Problem: I get Charley Horse Cramps more often when I'm pregnant. They can be really painful and hard to work out.
What I've done for them: Just lemongrass worked really well on the first one. The next one was more stubborn, but was gone quickly with Lemongrass and some Peppermint. I also stretch and relax the muscles, and sometimes massage the muscle, to help them work out the cramp. Recently I had a cramp that seemed to keep coming back, right behind my left knee (I hadn't been exercising my muscles as I should.) After the third time in the same day, I also massaged some Citrus Bliss diluted in Fractionated Coconut oil on the whole leg. The pain went away and did not come back again.

Marma
In October of 2011 I was able to witness Dr. Naram doing Marma for the first time. He often does it for a few individuals on his last night in a city. I was fascinated as I watched him measure (for women from the belly button to the end of each foot, for men from their nipples to their belly button), apply pressure in various places in the back and measure again. The measurements after Marma always equaled the same - meaning the body was back in alignment. The patients were asked to visualize the healing before being worked on. One man, was in a motorized wheel chair, and determined to double the amount of steps he would take from his last Marma session (for a total of 12). Sometimes while walking, he'd freeze and Dr. Naram would help with more Marma to his legs.
After witnessing this session, I was determined to attend the next one in my area and have Dr. Naram work on me. My vision was to eliminate my blood issues. My opportunity came in December of 2011. I was 4 1/2 months pregnant, so Dr. Naram worked on me a little differently - by not having me face down for the Marma. He put pressure around my middle section and when he remeasured me, I balanced out. I don't know that I felt alot different after the session, but I haven't felt the need to apply my oils that are specifically for blood issues on my legs since. (Citrus Bliss for circulation, Grapefruit for blood clotting) The only major pains in my legs have been charley horse cramps that I've treated as desribed in a different post.

Problem: My son had an earache and then I noticed my ears were also hurting.
What I did: I put Melaleuca on the surface of and behind my son's ears. He said he didn't notice much difference. But when I did the same to my ears I could feel the difference within minutes. After taking my son to the Dr., it was confirmed that one ear was infected.
Other Notes: My son took antibiotics for a week and then broke out in a rash. I put lavender and melaleuca on his feet to help reduce the affects of his allergic reaction. The rash disappeared from his face within 48 hrs.

Homeopathic Remedies for Depression
Problem: Four and a half years ago, after my second child, I was diagnosed with post-partum depression and given some medication they said wouldn't affect my baby. It made me feel loopy and I was convinced it was affecting my daughter, too.
What I Did: I started looking on line and found a website that introduced me to Homeopathic Remedies for Depression. It was a lot like this one : http://treatingdepressionhelp.com/homeopathic-remedies-for-depression
I took this list to the midwife and she recommended I try Ignatia Amara because that seemed to work for a lot of people. I went to a local health food store and got some. I discovered the suggested dose still made me a little loopy. I reduced it to one or two pellets (of 6 c) and felt a lift in my spirits without the loopiness.
Additional Notes: The little pellets taste like candy and the little container lasted me about 4 years because after a while I wasn't even taking them everyday - only when I felt especially irritable or low.

Blot Clots
Last year in November I was diagnosed with major blood clots. Because I was also 3 months pregnant, I stayed a week in the hospital and was sent home on Lovenox. For two weeks I injected myself twice a day - resulting in big bruises. I was switched to Coumadin because I had a miscarriage. After that experience I did everything I could to not only understand what in my body could have caused the unexpected blood clots (three pregnancies without them and no other pre-existing condition). I also sought ways to get my health back and not have to take medicine for it anymore.
My massive blood tests revealed three possible causes (other than pregnancy):
1. Speckled ANA - though not a cause in itself, related to APS
APS- Antiphosilipid Syndrome; basically some antibodies that start attacking my own body
2. MTHFR - Melthylenetetrahydrofolate reductase - may inhibit absorbtion of vitamin B9
3. Prothrombin 20210 - only one gene mutation - plays only a minor role in blood clotting
As I saw it, the APS was the only thing that could really be a problem. I also decided that if it is acquired then it can be removed.
My APS level was 20 in December with my first test. My level at the end of January was 12. I felt that a substantial decline, but the cut off is 10 so I was diagnosed with APS because my levels were above ten for over a six week period. I attribute the difference to the taking of Dr. Naram's herbal supplements (see link in other helpful websites).
I met Dr. Naram because my brother works for him. It was a long wait, but a fascinating experience. Dr. Naram meets with each person individually for a few moments, reading your pulse by gently holding your wrist. He told me that I'm Vata (wind). That I want to accomplish a lot but don't have the energy for it. He talked to me about bad circulation and memory issues. He then prescribed 6 herbal supplements/medicine.
I was able to later meet with Marian who explained the supplements and how they would help. She also described the Ayurvedic Diet. She has the amazing ability to help you see that you can try a diet different than you are used to. I tried to adapt to the diet slowly, but bought lots of spices and other supplies so that we could work them in as quickly as I had energy to create new dishes.
I discovered a couple things in this process. After a week of trying Almond milk mixed with cows milk, I let myself indulge in a glass of just cow milk. As I did so, this cloudy feeling lifted around my head. I decided from that experience that my body needs milk - cow's milk.
Another thing I discovered is that I like food with more flavor - I also found that many of the spices also had blood thinning properties that could be helpful in my desire to cleanse my body of the blood clots. (See link "Natural Blood Thinners" with other helpful websites)
Since I decided I couldn't subscribe to the one diet fits all, I also looked more at Blood Type Diets (see link in other helpful websites to see how different foods affect different blood types). A friend had introduced me to the Blood Type Diets several years ago, but now it seemed more pertinent. Since both my husband and I are B type we looked at that diet the most. When I saw similarities between the B type diet and the Aryevedic diet, I took extra notice.
I tried avoiding different things to see how it affected my body. Avoiding wheat didn't seem to make much difference. However, after avoiding corn and corn products for a couple weeks, I noticed that the stiffness and pain in my finger joints had gone from a 4 or 5 down to a 1.
I'm still working out my diet choices, but rely on two key things to help me discover what things are helpful and what things to avoid. 1. My stomach - if it has me re-tasting my food a lot, then I'm less likely to repeat eating whatever I'm re-tasting. 2. My intuition - I take time to think and listen deeply as I try to understand what my body needs or doesn't need.

Super Glue Episode
Problem: My 4 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son came home from a friend's with super glue on their hands. The 2 yr old also had some near his nose. In some places it looked like the glue would easily flake away, though it didn't. Other places on my son's hands it was indented as if the glue had fused with skin and eaten away a layer or two.
What I Did: I had them wash their hands with On Guard foaming wash to see if that would help flake the glue away. I looked online, in my book, asked my DoTerra friends. The only answer that came was inspiration when I realized I just needed to clean their hands. I tried an On Guard wipe on my 2 yr old's hands, holding it on his hand to soak the glue and then wiping, as he was going to sleep. One area seemed like it was clearer than before, but it was hard to tell because it was dark.
The next morning I used more wipes on my son and daughter. It peeled of really quite easily off of my son - using the soak and wipe method with just a little bit of fingernail scraping. My daughter complained that strategy was hurting, so I put a couple drops of On Guard Essential Oil, and some On Guard foaming soap in some water in a small basin. I had here soak here hand for a few moments and then used my fingernails to scrap off the glue. This new method didn't hurt at all. Within ten minutes their hands were clean with no visible signs that super glue was ever there.
Additional notes: I didn't use oil on the super glue near his nose because I didn't want to get it in his eyes or nose and I wanted to see what would happen without oil. In this spot, it just looked like smeared snot, only it wouldn't scrap off easily, so I knew it was more glue. I tried to help it peel off every so often with my fingernails, and a small part would come off. It took a couple days for it to completely be gone from his face, and another day for there to be no sign of redness in the area.
